Circadian Light Synthesis
Concept and Architecture: ANARCHITECT
Commissioned by COLLECTIONAL
Scope of work:
Architectural Finishes
Client:
Materiality and light intersect in Circadian Light Synthesis, a collaborative installation by ANARCHITECT, realized with the support of Matteo Brioni and COLLECTIONAL (H&H Studio) for Dubai Design Week 2018.
The project investigates the human circadian rhythm through architecture, blending natural and artificial light to evoke the passage of time.
COLLECTIONALmade contributed to the material execution of the pavilions through the use of TerraPlus Cammeo, a clay-based finish developed by Matteo Brioni. Composed of raw earth, mineral binders, and polymeric additives, this finish provides both resilience and permeability, allowing light to highlight its tactile, organic qualities.
The installation consists of two distinct volumes, an open Exposed Pavilion aligned with the sun’s path to capture shifting shadows, and an Enclosed Pavilion where the artificial sun and moon simulate natural cycles. Together, they create a multisensory space that invites reflection on the relationship between architecture, light, and well-being.
Positioned at the main pedestrian gateway of d3, the project not only framed a unique view of the Dubai skyline but also served as a moment of stillness within the city’s rhythm.
