Chiara Berta
b.
1975
Based in
Emilia-Romagna, Italy
Working primarily with earthenware, Berta sculpts vessels and objects that embrace asymmetry, tactile surfaces, and natural irregularities, transforming simple shapes into poetic, one-of-a-kind pieces. Her work is driven less by perfection than by feeling, allowing each object to reflect the slow rhythm of its making.
“I have always been very interested in form and matter. These two elements are the best way for me to convey my thoughts and emotions. The physical relationship with clay and the manipulation of materials allow me to transfer the intensity of the gesture and the search for balance into the forms I create.”
Chiara Berta
After establishing her own ceramic workshop in 1999, her ceramics have been exhibited in design galleries and institutions across Italy, including presentations at Milan’s Triennale and contemporary craft biennials.
From vases to sculptural tabletop forms, each piece reveals a sensitivity to balance, texture, and spatial harmony. Chiara Berta’s approach sits at the intersection of design and art, offering works that are both contemplative and materially grounded.
“It's very important that the work I create has a strong evocative power. I believe that any object or work that surrounds us, whatever it may be, should communicate intense sensations to us, whether it's a feeling of calm and balance, or a sense of disturbance. This is what I want most from my work.”
