Lucas Recchia
b.
1992
Based in
São Paulo, Brazil
Fusing ancestral techniques with contemporary modeling, he transforms recycled glass, bronze, and Brazilian stones into collectible objects that explore the tension between permanence and transformation. His practice is rooted in São Paulo, where he collaborates with local artisans to craft pieces that blur the boundaries between art and design.
“My purpose is to mix the boundaries between art and design from the standpoint of a not-too-obvious functionality and also express/add a Brazilian element that is not focused on the traditional modern Brazilian furniture made of wood”
Recchia's collections, such as Caco, Material Distortion, and Eche, are characterized by their tactile forms, nuanced textures, and a commitment to sustainability, often utilizing solar energy in their creation. His work focuses on the transformative nature of materials, especially glass, exploring themes of loss, transformation, and sustainability by reusing materials such as broken glass.
Recchia collaborates with local artisans in São Paulo and emphasizes the intersection between art and design, deliberately moving beyond the Brazilian modernist tradition of wood furniture to create innovative, sculptural pieces with a distinctly Brazilian sensibility
