His creative journey has been anything but conventional, weaving together stonemasonry, embroidery, football, and sculpture before culminating in the founding of his Melbourne-based studio, denHolm. This diverse background has been instrumental in shaping his artistic approach, allowing him to refine a practice that blends craftsmanship with contemporary design.
“My work explores the materials I work[ed] with every day in the building trade, manipulating their forms and pushing past their function”
Clark's innovative approach has garnered international recognition, with his work showcased at prestigious venues such as the National Gallery of Victoria and Art Basel. His sculptural pieces, crafted primarily from South Australian limestone, exemplify a commitment to material integrity and form.
Notable works include the ‘Cindy Coffee Table’, ‘Pearly Skelp’ sculpture, and the ‘Ellie Side Table’, each reflecting his dedication to merging functionality with artistic expression.
“I decided that I would make objects – furniture – that had the same kind of rhythm as my sculptures. And I really wanted to make things that had a lot of personality, that couldn’t be read from one angle, and have everything asymmetrical, everything that we make in furniture. I didn’t want that to be the case when I made a piece with denHolm”
