The shape of things to come
Curated by COLLECTIONAL
Inaugural Exhibition

The Shape of Things to Come signals the beginning of a new chapter. As COLLECTIONAL’s inaugural exhibition, it brings together iconic works by renowned design houses and exclusive commissions by emerging and established individual designers, each work chosen for its ability to challenge the boundaries of form.
The exhibition’s title is drawn from the dynamic silhouettes and bold gestures that define the pieces on view. But beyond form, it speaks to a sense of becoming: the future of the gallery, the evolution of design, and Dubai as a growing centre for global creative discourse.
At the heart of the exhibition is Mirage, a new body of work by Sabine Marcelis commissioned exclusively for COLLECTIONAL. Inspired by the shifting urban and natural landscapes of Dubai, Mirage continues Marcelis’ exploration of colour and light, this time through mirrored surfaces that interact with their environment in new and unexpected ways.
Through a constellation of collectible pieces by designers such as Michael Anastassiades, Dimoremilano, CC Tapis, Christopher Boots, EWE Studio, Nada Debs, Pietro Franceschini, and many more, The Shape of Things to Come opens a dialogue across geographies and generations.
It poses essential questions:
How does an idea take form? What shape can imagination take? How does design give shape to the world we want to build?
