Gaultier Rimbault Joffard
b. 1987 Based in Paris, France
Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard, (1987) lives and works in Paris, France, graduated from ESAG Penninghen. The first part of his career was marked by architecture, where he worked for several years with Christian Liaigre and Pierre Yovanovitch. This architectural dimension shaped his approach to composition and materiality.
Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard’s practice is rooted in a continuous exploration of light and materiality. His work unfolds across several distinct yet interconnected series, reflecting a deep engagement with the relationships between surface, perception, and temporality.

A key aspect of his practice lies in the use of custom-made tools, which allow him to layer and manipulate paint in ways that are both precise and organic.
These tools generate rhythmic textures that become fields of visual and tactile exploration, blurring the line between image and object. Some works feature gradients where color dissolves into soft luminosity, while others, marked by dense and vibrant surfaces, challenge perception through contrasts and overlays.

Rimbault-Joffard also extends this research into the design of furniture and sculptural pieces. Tables, benches, sideboards, function becomes a pretext to create volumetric dialogues between materials, where wooden structures, composite materials, or metal reflect his aesthetic concerns, capable of absorbing or reflecting light, in constant interaction with space and movement. These creations further his reflection on surface, dissolving the boundaries between art and design.
Across his entire body of work, the artist constructs immersive pieces that evolve with their environment, light, and viewpoint, offering a spatial, sensory, and contemplative experience in which perception remains in flux.
