Sergio Rodrigues

Sergio Rodrigues (1927–2014) is considered the father of modern Brazilian furniture, celebrated for designs that combine architectural clarity with generous comfort and a distinctly Brazilian spirit. His use of native woods, robust forms, and relaxed proportions helped define an authentic national design language that continues to influence designers and interiors worldwide.

The designer was renowned for the way he humanized modernism, creating pieces that invited use rather than mere contemplation. His furniture often features generous, welcoming proportions, visible joints, and leather or cane elements that age beautifully over time, reinforcing the sense of intimacy and everyday life embedded in his work.

LinBrasil plays an important role in preserving this legacy by producing and reissuing Rodrigues’s furniture. Dedicated to his work, the brand keeps his most emblematic pieces in circulation.

Over the course of 60 years, Rodrigues produced more than 1,500 furniture pieces, developing a distinctive style that captured the Brazilian essence. His works, often crafted from native woods such as Jacarandá, Peroba, and Imbuia, set the standard for modern Brazilian furniture, earning him the title of “father of modern Brazilian furniture.”

LinBrasil, through its Sergio Rodrigues furniture line, honors this legacy by remaining faithful to the original designs. The production process combines modern and traditional techniques with a strong environmental commitment, ensuring that all native woods used are sourced responsibly and legally harvested, with authorization from IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources).

“It’s been a long time since I saw Sergio Rodrigues’ armchairs live. I was reenchanted with its Brazilianness, the Brazilian culture inserted in a furniture of modern design, the solid wood, the fittings, the curved and sensual lines. However, there was nowhere I could buy his creations. The market was dominated at that time by globalized design, and the genius of the master was inaccessible”
