Apparatus
APPARATUS is a New York-based interdisciplinary design studio that explores the relationship of lighting, furniture, and objects in their environments. Predicated on the modernist principle of gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art, fully articulated collections reveal each piece as an artifact from a singular vision - each imprint referencing the historical and cultural mood summoned by a holistic emotional landscape.
APPARATUS creates each piece devoted to the rigor of small studio craftsmanship, centering the importance of the human hand in lending soul to an object. Sensual materials such as marble, suede, horsehair, lacquer, and porcelain are combined with patinated brass to create the studio’s distinctive catalog.

The slip-cast porcelain forms of the LANTERN floats along a rigid brass structure. Their glow is punctuated by finely incised fluting, connecting to the essential element of historical lanterns - light passing through a delicate protective form. Repeating spheres act as a counterpoint to the sizeable shades.
Apparatus
Horsehair Pendant Light by Gabriel Hendifar for Apparatus represents a robust study of material that evokes the grace and strength of its equine contributor. Wefts of horsehair are combined with brass and etched glass, implying a structural, weight-bearing function for the coarse hair.
Apparatus
Highwire Pendant Light by Gabriel Hendifar for Apparatus is inspired by the silhouette of famed French aerialist Philippe Petit on his wire. The “balance bar” is wrapped in leather or suede and can be tilted along its axis.

The Circuit creates rhythm with the repetition of pure shapes. A glowing glass capsule nests in a brass shade, becoming a contained form that multiplies to construct larger fixtures. The Circuit 3 can be ceiling or wall mounted.

The Axon Table Lamp by Gabriel Hendifar for Apparatus features slumped glass sitting over a brass hemisphere. The scale of the small lamp lends itself to tabletop use. The large version is weighty and oversized, conceived to sit confidently on the floor. Operates via brass turn-dimmer knob.
