The Village collection

Salvatori

The Village is inspired by Gabriele Salvatori’s wish to explore the concept of home within the context of today’s global society and reinterpret it through the medium of design, whilst addressing fundamental themes of contemporary living. To recreate the rich and diverse structure of a typical village, we invited a select group of designers from around the world to share their idea of home, each bringing their own inimitable combination of outlooking, culture and background. The result is a fascinating and wonderfully eclectic collection of miniature houses, that, like the global village we inhabit, reflect an extraordinary array of styles and approaches. What links them, however, is the use of natural stone, that enduring and beloved material that has been used since time memorial to construct buildings, art and monuments that provide refuge and inspiration for mankind. From the very first rudimentary dwellings of cavemen and women, it has protected and enveloped us, the very same characteristics we still look for today when we choose our home, our haven. Designers such as Rodolfo Dordoni, Kengo Kuma, Elisa Ossino, John Pawson, Patricia Urquiola, Vincent Van Duysen and Yabu Pushelberg accepted our challenge, each contributing their precious and unique interpretation of the concept of home, expressed in a miniature piece of very special and absolutely original architecture. The Village is a natural continuation of Salvatori’s commitment to reinventing the concept of home décor by developing pieces that express “home” as a holistic experience that touches all our senses and nurtures our soul.

Salvatori

Gravity Zodiac, designed by Salvatori Design Center, is a homage to the extraordinary capacity of natural stone to transmit an energy that changes with every person with whom it comes into contact. We set about harnessing that in a meaningful way that would resonate with whoever held it in their hands. The result is the Gravity Zodiac collection of twelve spheres, each associated with a sign of the zodiac, its ruling planet, and a stone and, consequently, a particular energy. To accentuate the association with the planets, each sphere was designed to rotate on a bronze base in a recreation of the motion of heavenly bodies. The idea behind the collection is to create a realignment with the energy of the ruling planet by revisiting the different celestial spheres through the characteristics of each star and its corresponding zodiac sign. Collection available in following: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.

OVOO Table

Hessentia

The Ovoo table tells stories of faraway lands, belonging to the shamanic cult typical of Mongolia. The inspiration of this collection is the concept of “ovoo”: the piles of stones used as reference points at the top of the mountains, were in fact the inspiration for the overlapping of lacquered wooden top and base in glossy curry combined with other elements in patina brass casting.

The Chieftain Chair, designed by Finn Juhl. The iconic Chieftain Chair is one of Finn Juhl’s absolute masterpieces, representing the peak of his career as a furniture designer. At its introduction in 1949, the chair marked a renewal of the Danish furniture design tradition. Today, it is perceived as one of the most important exponents of the Modern Danish movement in the US during the 1950s. Reading Chair, designed by Finn Juhl. In 1953, Finn Juhl designed this simple, unpretentious, yet thoroughly well-designed and visually pleasing chair. The Reading Chair is manufactured in oak with a back piece of oak and walnut or in a fully black painted version.

Pelican Chair

Pelican Chair, designed by Finn Juhl. His fascination for surrealism is visible in the Pelican Chair. Out of all his many designs, the Pelican Chair was probably the one furthest ahead of its time. The Pelican Chair is produced in two versions - with or without buttons. It is manufactured with a cushion and upholstered by hand in Denmark in fabric. The legs are available in oak, walnut, or black paint.

Metropolis Table Lamp

A lamp was created as a result of a fascination with the possibilities offered by metallurgy. The light exposes what is most beautiful in brass. Here I see beauty in two different forms. The first are various types of dishes or shields. Their phenomenon is the occurrence of irresolvable conditions. The flat sheet is flaccid and prone to deformation. Only after its extrusion and giving its sphericity it gains its constitutionality. The second form is the heavy machine parts, simple and perfectly matched "geometries." Metropolis is a clash of both of these fascinations. The lamp is made by hand with entire brass, using traditional methods of metalworking and other ways, slowly fading into obscurity. An example of which are the plates executed by the metal spinning method.

Man of Parts

Mainkai, designed by Sebastian Herkner. Mainkai, or Main River Quay in English, is the riverside boulevard in Frankfurt, Germany, close to where designer Sebastian Herkner grew up and still calls home today. The spherical fishing floats and mooring buoys that bob along the river with an ethereal glow at night inspired the Mainkai's lamps' design.

The slip-cast porcelain forms of the lantern series float along a rigid brass structure. Their glow is punctuated by finely incised fluting, connecting to the essential element of historical lanterns – light passing through a delicate protective form. Repeating spheres act as a counterpoint to the sizeable shades. A dimmer ball sits on the base.

A robust study of material evokes the grace and strength of its equine contributor. Wefts of horsehair are combined with brass and etched glass, implying a structural weight-bearing function for the coarse hair.

The finished piece looks like a precious gem. The elegant column-style base is a cylinder made of brass enriched by a natural golden finish. Primitive massive blocks recall the outlines of coastal stones, which forms were naturally polished by water."Water is soft and accepting. At the same time, it overcomes all the rigid and rock. This soft power is revealed in PLYN sofa”, comments Victoria Yakusha, founder of Faina."I started thinking about acceptance and fluidity after the pandemic when we all felt on our skin that we couldn't affect some things. Warm light emanates through the naturally uncut crystals, providing a dramatic glow through dimmable LED technology.

Empyrean Suspended 01

Laurids Gallée

In ancient cosmologies, the Empyrean was believed to be a heavenly place in the highest of heavens, occupied by the element of fire. The warm glow of the ceiling light Empyrean suspended 01 pays homage to this antiquated concept, as Gallée experiments with light through material hues, transparency, and luminosity. Paired with studies of space from today, Gallée observed the warped behavior of light around black holes and translated it into the refraction of light in the Empyrean light. 24m of LED-light strips illuminate the dark resin centerpieces from within, while the rounded edges contort the light rays, creating a floating effect that moves around the geometric composition. The thickness of the resin blocks with the intangible translucence of the light creates a compelling juxtaposition that constitutes a balanced yet playful aesthetic that teases the eye. Empyrean suspended 01 is the first light in the Empyrean collection. As Gallée experiments with the light-bending qualities of translucent resin, the Empyrean collection will grow and continue to catch the light.

Abyss Horizon Coffee Table

A study of depth and our perception of it, the Abyss Horizon uses the interplay between light and layers of the natural Birchwood coloration and sculpted blue glass to forge a mesmerizing three-dimensional canvas – reminiscent of our perception of water and how we observe its color transform at different depths. The perceived change in color becomes the element that gives true meaning to the piece, conjuring up ideas of a great oceanic topography and transforming the flowing design into an expressive object.

Constructed following the principles of a mobile, these are arrangements of linear tubes, geometric light sources, reflective surfaces and counterbalancing weights. The Sunflower lends playful structure to the fresnel family. Positioned atop asymmetrical steel stems, combined blooms exhale a warm, twinkling light. Hot ribbons of recycled plastic build each lens slowly, layer by layer. Sourced from rooftop windows, safety glasses, and industrial chocolate moulds, this unlikely material gifts durability and glasslike transparency to the flowers. Mounted upon a central steel ball, each tactile lens is easily redirected by hand.Recycled plastic, much like wood, carries indicators of its history. Based on the previous life of our plastic, the transparent material can appear cool or warm. The specific tint is not under our control, though is part of the joy in granting material a second life.
