Pair of Rare Tarquini Martensson and Michael Tarp Jensen Armchairs

Tarquini Mårtensson, Michael Tarp Jensen, armchairs, black lacquered plywood, metal, wool, Denmark, 1974
Danish architects Tarquini Mårtensson and Michael Tarp Jensen designed this rare pair of chairs for Idrættens Hus ('House of Sports'). This impressive Brutalist complex was situated in Brøndby, a few kilometers outside of Kopenhagen and built in 1974. The spacious venue featured sports facilities, offices and meeting rooms. Today, the Danish Sports Confederation is still held in Idrættens Hus together with Team Denmark, Anti Doping Denmark and a number of special federations.
Inside the building, the function-driven and well constructed furniture compliments the sturdy exterior of the building. The black lacquered chairs show an honest construction with all metal joints and mounts visible. The rounded seats are upholstered in a bright green wool. The open construction of the chairs contribute to the architectural feeling the chairs evoke.
