Downtown Design

Dubai Design Week is almost here, and we are excited to announce our participation in two separate exhibitions. Each curation creates an invocation to anticipate unlimited possibilities. Beauty and form blur the lines of functionality and materiality.

For the first time, we will be participating in this year’s Downtown Design fair with a curated selection of international designs from around the globe.

MAINKAI 5 - MAN OF PARTS

Mainkai, designed by Sebastian Herkner. Mainkai, or Main River Quay in English, is the riverside boulevard in Frankfurt, Germany, close to where designer Sebastian Herkner grew up and still calls home today. The spherical fishing floats and mooring buoys that bob along the river with an ethereal glow at night inspired the Mainkai's lamps' design.

VIA DEL CORSO - MAN OF PARTS

Via del Corso, designed by Yabu Pushelberg, is the center of life in historical Rome. Meeting at the Piazza Venezia with its three-sided roundabout and monumental church, “the Corso” is impressive. Yabu Pushelberg’s lounge chair has the same purposeful and imposing profile as the via but is balanced by soft curves and lightness from its floating feet.

TAULA TABLE - SALVATORI

The Taula table collection was inspired by the imposing monolithic structures of the same name found on the Mediterranean islands of Menorca and Mallorca. Designer Patricia Urquiola has reinterpreted their ancestral might and mysticism in a series of innovative dining tables that exalt the tactility of natural stone. The soft curved forms of marble and limestone combine with an ingenious metal support system that creates the effect of a top that seems to float above the legs. This optical illusion, the result of meticulous research conducted by our team into form and perspective, defies our normal perception of stone as a solid, heavy material, making it appear unexpectedly light.

LANTERN FLOOR LAMP - APPARATUS STUDIO

The slip-cast porcelain forms of the lantern series float along a rigid brass structure. Their glow is punctuated by finely incised fluting, connecting to the essential element of historical lanterns – light passing through a delicate protective form. Repeating spheres act as a counterpoint to the sizeable shades. A dimmer ball sits on the base.

HORSE HAIR SCONE - APPARATUS STUDIO

A robust study of material evokes the grace and strength of its equine contributor. Wefts of horsehair are combined with brass and etched glass, implying a structural weight-bearing function for the coarse hair.

MOBILE CHANDELIER 9 - MICHAEL ANASTASSIADES

The Mobile Chandeliers are delicate structures balanced in perfect equilibrium. Constructed following the principles of a mobile, these are arrangements of linear tubes, geometric light sources, reflective surfaces and counterbalancing weights. The pieces rotate freely and delicately, creating an ever-changing lighting configuration unique to the space they occupy.

EROS BEAN COFFEE TABLE - AGAPECASA

A system of marble tables as a milestone in research into interlocking furniture without joints or locks: for the "Eros" tables the construction solution involves a gravity joint between the top and the leg, obtained thanks to the truncated conical section of the itself.

ROI STOOL - COLLECTION PARTICULIERE

The Roi stools evoke the outline of chess pieces or a pommel horse. It draws its stylistic vocabulary from the tradition of turned wood, in this precious and fine art consisting in subtracting, hollowing out, and redrawing the material so as to glorify it.
